The Lowline is a work in progress and this conceptual master plan presents a vision for the Lowline.
What is now a former railroad track and forgotten stretch of urban space can be so much more.
The Conceptual Study is organized into four key sections and three main districts. Feel free to explore the study in its entirety or navigate to the sections and districts most important to you.

Mt. Pleasant Street to Romney Street
Romney Street to Spring Street
The Lowline is the central spine of a regional park and mobility system connecting Downtown to West Ashley, North Charleston and Mt. Pleasant. It will transform the neglected corridor into an area supporting and expressing the eight surrounding neighborhoods and districts. It will be completely unique to Charleston.
The Lowline will play a significant role in the future of water management for the Charleston peninsula. It will provide ample open space to implement a variety of strategies that embrace and manage water.
The Lowline is a new mobility corridor along the spine of the peninsula. It provides a safe pedestrian and bicycle circulation along its entire length. It will transform the way people move around the Lowcountry.
The Lowline is envisioned to be a lush, botanically diverse corridor and planting will be true to Charleston for people to enjoy. The greening of the space will support and enhance ecosystem services.
The Lowline will be a new type of public park for the Charleston region. It will provide traditional active and passive recreational activities. There will also be places to eat, drink, shop and gather for neighborhood and community events.
